Smooth Bikini Line

Keep Your Bikini Line Smooth

The skin in the Bikini area is very sensitive and can be easily irritated and hard to keep smooth and free of razor bumps.

Here is some useful information that can help you obtain a smooth, clear and razor bump free Bikini line.

LASER TREATMENT
If you can afford the latest in hair removing techniques then Laser is your best choice. Although Laser hair removal does hurt, it has the longest lasting effects. You will see the difference after your first treatment. Your hair will not grow back right away, and when it does it will be much thinner. Each treatment reduces the regrowth of your hair until it does not grow back at all (maybe some peach fuzz). Normally it takes between 8 to 12 treatments for no regrowth of any hair in a treated area.

In the past it was a risk for people with darker skin tones to get blisters and hyper pigmentation. Also, for those with red and blond hair because the Laser may not remove the unwanted hair due to the lack of pigmentation. Before getting any laser treatments you should consult with the technicians and be sure to mention any concerns.

WAXING
This is probably the most common method of removing bikini hair. Most people get it professionally done at a Salon. This method is rather harsh. First, you have to wait for the hairs to grow out before you can wax them off. This period of growth can be an inconvenience if you are constantly in need of a smooth bikini line. Second, you should be sure that proper sanitation is being enforced in the salon in which you are getting serviced. Third, waxing can create irritation, ingrown hairs and ripped skin besides other complications. Forth, it is very painful.

The benefit of waxing is the amount of time it takes for the hairs to grow back (up to two weeks). Hair grows back in patches, therefore; making it thinner than before.

If you are going to get waxed make sure it is by a licensed Esthetician.

SHAVING
This is the oldest in all hair removal techniques. Though shaving is convenient and inexpensive, if not done with the proper preparation it can be very harsh on the skin. Shaving can create razor bumps that look so bad you may want to skip the bikini all together. If you are going to shave this summer, here are some key steps that you must follow each time in order to keep a smooth bikini line and to help in preventing razor bumps.

Step 1- Before you shave exfoliate the skin with a scrub (Sugar, Sea Salt, etc.).

Step 2- While shaving DO NOT APPLY PRESSURE. Side note; It is best to shave in a warm environment like a steaming shower or in front of a heater.

Step 3- Immediately after you shave use an astringent or rubbing alcohol to remove any bacteria.

Step 4- Take a towel and run it under hot water and place this hot towel (hot enough where you can stand it without getting burnt) onto the area in which you have just shaved, after using the astringent or alcohol.

Step 5- Take an ice cube and rub it along the area for 30 seconds, or take a towel and run it under very cold water and place it on the area for 30 seconds. This is done to close your pores, and helps prevent bateria from entering.

In the area where you shaved, it is a good idea to exfoliate daily to prevent ingrown hairs from forming. Also use a cream like Cocoa Butter to help calm the skin after you close your pores.

DIPLORITORY- CREAMS
Have you heard of Nair? Hair removal cream is a great alternative because it gets the area very smooth and can last longer than shaving. It can also be used about once a week. Most companies have come out with a sensitive skin diploritory cream which can prevent chemical burns. However, you must be sure not too keep the cream on for more than 10 minutes, so have a timer nearby (even for coarse hair). It is also good practice to do a patch test on a small part of your body prior to using these products. TIP- After about 5 minutes do a little test to see if the hair is ready to be removed by only wiping a very small area. Hair should come off easily. You do not want to have to reapply the cream because of hair that was not removed initially, as this can cause skin irritation.
